Note the stenciling E.E.I. Co. on the uppermost crossarm. Such identification was commonplace for utility companies for decades at least here in New England. The initials stood for the Edison Electric Illuminating Company (of Boston). Boston Edison in 1938. Around 1930 utilities began to use standard pole tags with their company initials on them for this purpose, if they continued this practice at all. The steel pole also in the foreground supports a single trolley cable feeder. Commonly composite pintype insulators were used around Boston and its suburbs for this purpose.
