Bill M's most recent auction featured an awesome Ukrainian tiger-striped 568.7. The piece I am offering today is just as spectacular, but in slightly different way. Whereas the typical 'tiger striped' pieces have 'stripes' (bands) of red-amber floating around the piece, this piece seems to have been 'draped' in yellow amber. As you can see in the photos (view full size for full effect), the primary color of the glass is aqua, however, there is so much amber in the piece that you can hardly find any aqua - just a small amount in the dome. The dome contains 'bands' of deep amber (not quite 'red', but towards orange), while the skirt is practically all amber. This results in the piece's 'shoulder' having a green color appearance, while the lower skirt is almost pure amber. The piece is in VVNM condition, with only a match-head size chip in the base (see second posting for base-view). Additionally, what appears to be cracks or grooves in the skirt are actually 'raised lines' (scars) of glass. I cannot explain them any different - it was as if the mold had grooves cut into it - fairly wide, at least 1mm, and deep, at least .5mm. There are three of these 'scars' on one side, and a lone scar on the other. The photos shown here are exactly what the piece looks like against a back-lit display. Against a window with natural light the colors are not nearly as dramatic unless the sun is literally shining thru the piece. The piece at the show closed at $320. I am offering this piece for far less - $220, plus shipping to USA addresses. PayPal friends and family is preferred. |
