Made from Ligum Vitae Wood, a dense wood that possessed properties yielding the ability to self lubicate when heated from use like in gears. The wood was very heavy and often used as ballast in ships. When the 1906 San Fransisco earthquake hit it destroyed much of the electrical service in the urban area. Fortunately a supply of the wood survived on the docks and a limited number of lathes as well. Using metal and glass insulators that survived as models, two styles were created as temporary replacements: Cable Top and Dome Top.

This piece has NOT been refinished as many have pieces have been. It exudes a lot of character and certainly a ton of West Coast history.

$225.00 shipped within the Continental US.
