Al and Brenda Klaus and family provided a spacious and comfortable venue in Winchester, N.H., on Saturday for the Yankee Pole Cat Insulator Club's revitalized summer get-together, which has been on "hiatus" for a while. The location was ideal (easy to find--despite what Bob Fuqua will tell you--with lots of off-the-street traffic beginning with early birds starting at 6:30 a.m. and continuing through breakdown and close); the weather could not have been more perfect (about 70 degrees with bright sunshine and just enough breeze to keep the bugs down); and the selection of insulators (and stuff) for sale, trade, and display was reportedly head and shoulders above what appeared at the NIA's recent 50th Anniversary National Show (I didn't make it to Florida, so this report is complete hearsay). I do know that sales were brisk, stories were expounded (expanded?), and the general camaraderie and goodwill was high. In addition to the usual summer fare of burgers, dogs, and chips, Brenda started the early risers off with homemade blueberry or cinnamon donuts, and she also made a huge batch of her awesome potato salad for the lunch crowd, while Al's homemade baked beans and New England clam chowder were to die for! For those who couldn't make it out, the Klauses have already begun planning for next year's event. Hope to see you then.
