These lines were owned by the Boston Edison Company and the kind of construction you see here was very common for many years in the communities they served. In fact there still are some lines very similar still in use in areas where upgrading through the decades has not taken place. Boston Edison used only glass insulators for their distribution (nothing rare) and all of these were of the deep groove, double-petticoat variety, notably CD 164, 165.1 and 167. Many thousands of these are remain in service in and around Boston.
