Here is a picture from Kankakee, Illinois of the "Telephone Building." It was in March 1881 that the Central Union Telephone Co. was organized and quickly signed up nearly 50 subscribers. Later on, the company was absorbed by The Illinois Bell Telephone Company. The building which still stands today, later became a meeting and gathering place for the Salvation Army. It is now an artesian art gallery.
