Built and operated by the American Telegraph Company in 1869. Marshall Lefferts was Chief Engineer of the company at the time. The Ramshorn line ran from the train station at the base of the western side of the mountain, to the Tip Top House at the summit. Poles were made from the trees removed when building the track. Due to the extreme weather conditions, the poles got shorter at higher altitudes, even getting attached directly to the track timber.
