The lighter colored 10-pin crossarms suggest that these were fairly new and therefore could have been installed not too long before this photo was taken. Earlier phone lines here in New England that existed in rural and semi-rural areas originally were constructed with 6-pin arms (sidepins were used for fewer wires). By around 1905, the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and some other phone companies in this region adopted 10-pin crossarms as standard for most new construction. Doing so allowed for additional circuits since telephone use was becoming rapidly more popular.
