Abington, MA c.1905. Early Telegraph Line, RR Station, Locomotive.

This was taken right here in my home town ;-). By 1910 more circuits were added; becoming a six-pin route along this stretch connecting Boston with towns further down into southeast Massachusetts. During the early 1920s new cedar poles with ten-pin crossarms carrying hard-drawn copper wire replaced all of the old stuff. The latter was in use by Western Union until 1965. I've hunted many miles of this line in my younger collecting years. Never found anything too fancy. In 1995-1997 a rapid transit route connecting to Boston was built where the former tracks were. During the land-clearing operation I came across some cool insulator pins, crossarms and hardware; most of which I've added to my outdoor displays.

The station building still stands and is a restaurant.
