This community is in central Massachusetts. At one time (up through the later 1920s, I believe) the line you see was among AT&Ts first Long Distance routes, going from Boston to points west, notably Albany, NY. It was AT&Ts practice in their early years to sometimes add a pin and insulator on top of each long distance pole, supporting what is believed to be a lightning-ground wire, as you can somewhat see here. It is known that some crown-embossed Brookfield beehives without inner skirts (CD 143.5s) were used on some sections. Several of these rare insulators were discovered years ago in the woods in a marshy area where this long distance lead was cut down and abandoned.
