In addition we see an old carbon arc lamp on the right, along with a cool distribution ring mounted atop the tall pole in the center of this picture.. The latter enabled telephone subscriber (and other) wires to be distributed from all angles, at 360 degrees around. These were rather uncommon in the U.S. However they had much more popularity in Great Britain and Europe during the early part of the 20th century.
