Stopped in a thrift store on a rainy day looking for insulators. I ended up buying this for less than a few exits on the pa turnpike. It's a Himitsu Baku or personal secret box. They were first designed in 1893 in the region around mt. Fuji hence why they often have Mt. Fuji on them. They range from 4 to 66 steps to open. Years later they became popular with the tourists in the region which is how I suspect this vintage one got to the United States. Unfortunately it was in pieces but the important ones were there. Someone didn't want to figure out the 18 steps to open this so they broke it. I was eventually able to reverse the opening steps and make the missing pieces. See the next photo
