The local community here of Rosemark has moved the old rural telephone exchange back to its original site and are going to recreate to a certain degree the switch board room and also have a general community museum. They have the switchboard and other items. Interestingly, they have seven new old stock cross arms that have been stored since the fifties inside a barn. They look brand new. About 25 years ago, an elderly neighbor who was the son of a lineman for the original company gave me hundreds of glass telephone insulators from the old Rosemark telephone lines that his father had accumulated. In those hundreds there were probably 10 or so of value to a collector maybe totaling $100.00 or so. I would typically just get rid of "common" ones of no value to a collector but in this case I kept all that were not chipped due to the fact they were the small "pony" insulators and also them having come from Rosemark. So we will definitely have some sort of display with those. I have posted a few items that they have as being from the old company and I have no idea what they are. If anyone could provide info, it would be appreciated and be a great assist in the museum. Also, if anyone has an old photo of a lady switchboard operator they can use to show the public on at work, it would be appreciated. Finally, I know that certain operators (telegraph) used insulators on their chairs. Did rural telephone switchboard operators ever do this? Finally, on the box of wire. Would the lines have been open wire with insulated drops to the houses? I see there are both in the box. Any idea of the box being anything original? Thanks. Take care. Raleigh Sanford.
