The fixture I am holding was retrieved eight years ago by a utility friend who worked "in high places". The luminaire was made around 1956. It retains its original tube-powered photoelectric lighting control which is something totally unheard of for a unit this age since just about all other controllers have been changed to more modern electronic ones starting in the early 1960s. "Crescent" reflectors were patented by Wheeler around 1950. These shades were porcelain-enameled steel with "edge reflectors" along each bottom edge. These were made from rippled stainless steel strips and provided what was known as the "beacon effect" so that the reflection of the lightbulb would further spread in each direction along the roadway. Thus, with minimal dark spots between lights. This concept worked very well.

The street light I am holding (in my opinion) is far more rare than any 1956 Chevy with all the toys, including factory AC, tinted glass, power windows, etc...LOL! See accompanying photos for more info and details.
