After years of delays, Charles Viestenz and other like-minded individuals established what is now Loveland (Municipal) Water & Power to kick out a predecessor of Public Service Co. of Colorado that was then serving the town. In 1925, construction began on the Idylwilde Dam, a long penstock, and a hydroelectric powerhouse in the Big Thompson Canyon above Loveland, and from there, a 23kV transmission line on expanded-steel poles continued into town. The original insulators are apparently common Ohio Brass M-26xx multis, but the U-816B 'dinner plate' hi-top was used as an early replacement type. The hydro plant was destroyed in the 1976 flood (and replaced with a new plant), and damaged section of the 23kV line were replaced with modern construction. The 2013 flood totaled the hydro project, and Loveland Water & Power is well into a project to replace the 23kV line and associated distribution (2400V delta and 4160V wye) with its now standard 12.5kV construction.
