A few times each year I check Craigslist for various Minnesota cities to see if there are any insulators for sale. Last month I came across an ad with this photo. Nothing of interest here, I thought, but then I spotted the piece with what appeared to be a flat top. What could that be? This was the only photo and not a very good one, but I studied it a while and decided it could be a threadless with perhaps embossing on the skirt. Upper and lower ridge on the wire groove, could it be a CD 736 Tillotson? (I could be totally off base here, I've only owned four threadless in my life.) But whatever it is, might be worth the $60 asking price for the lot. The ad had been posted four weeks previously so was not optimistic but I called the number. A guy answered who told me his wife was selling the Craigslist items and he would have her call me when she got home from work. As I waited I contacted a collector friend and asked him to take a look. He called that evening and was told they were sold. Darn it, well, hopefully another collector made a great find there. |
