With all the poor weather found outside my window today I decided to go through my picture album and reminisce about previous insulator hunts. Seen here is a picture of me that was taken about five years ago up on the old SP&S Railway in Washington State. Here I am at the top of a 30 to 35-foot pole liberating LYNCHBURG CD 154s in dark gingerale. I spotted these rascals with my binoculars while I was walking over the railroad trestle above. Of the 40 insulators found on this particular pole only two were of any collectible value. What’s interesting is, the day this picture was taken it was around 105 degrees outside along with a constant hot breeze as evidenced by the rope trailing from me. I can still recall the air rushing through the wires that created sounds that seemed to sing to me as I worked to remove the insulators. It just does not get much better than this. |
