This is not an insulator question, but I hope that's OK. I bought a box of RR spikes at an auction this week. In the box were two tiny spikes. I've shown one here next to a normal size spike. Does anyone know what these would have been used for? Lee Brewer said he's seen spikes like this on amusement park train tracks, but he was wondering if they might have been used on mine train tracks. Any thoughts?

A number of people say they have seen these used for mine tracks and narrow gauge industrial tracks, and I'm sure we have lots of both in Western PA. Thanks for all the responses!
