I have been spending some time stripping paint from hardware used in an old New England farmouse. A couple of these barrel bolts carry a patriotic patent date.

Edit: In an odd twist of fate, it turns out the guy who was granted patent on this barrel construction was related to the family who owned the farmhouse. I doubt they ever made the connection.
