I was bored last weekend and figured I would go for an insulator hunt. I was going to a spot I frequent regularly at a substation that is in the middle of a nature preserve. To make a long story short, I found a connecting trail that connects the nature preserve to the PRR's old Atglen Susquehanna Branch, an old low grade freight route that was abandoned and is now a rail trail. What you are looking at is the old rail line running south toward the trestle at Safe Harbor. The line was electrified by the PRR in 1938, but the wires came down in the mid 80s, shortly after Conrail stopped their electric freight operations. The 138kv line on the right is still used however by Amtrak to provide power to their keystone line. |
