About a year ago I was spending the day with my family and good friend Jeffrey Kraemer. My sister was on Facebook and saw where a friend of hers posted some pictures of a bunch of insulators her husband had just brought home to her. My sister showed the pictures to Jeffrey and me and some looked like they were purple. I contacted the lady to see how many purple insulators she had and if she would sell some. She said they were piled up in some tubs and a trunk and there was at least 16 purples in the lot. I made arrangements to drive about an hour and a half to meet up with her and her husband at a gas station. I could hardly believe it when they pulled up with the piles of insulators in the back of their truck and about half of them looked like they were purple CD 154 Whithall Tatums. The husband said the insulators were from his bosses dads place. They found them and other railroad related stuff stored in an old grain silo. The guy had worked for the Central of Ga. RR for over 40 years and brought all this stuff home from work. I made a deal on the insulators and also a couple of old street lights they had and came home. At home I enjoyed sorting thru all the insulators. I was hoping to find some Boston's or other early telegraph insulators that were known to have been found along the Cen of GA. There was no Boston's but I did get a few CD 151 CREB's including one with a nice carbon bubble in the skirt, 2 pink CD 154 Whithall Tatums and a total of 71 purple CD 154 Whithall Tatums! Since then I have sold all the nice purples and just kept a few of the damaged ones for outside pole displays. |
