Went to an antique show in Granby, Quebec yesterday with two friends, and picked up what I have tentatively identified as a CD 143, Canada, [060] No Embossing, {Tall variant; threaded version of CD 743.3 } {MLOD} SB, very light green. I'm no expert on the NN, Canadian CD 143s so if you think otherwise I'd appreciate hearing from you. Has a tiny base chip, otherwise perfect with bright, shiny glass. Was not until I got it home and looked it up that I zeroed in on this ID and thought this was a really good insulator for $15 Canadian. Also got a mint CD 102 Diamond / Diamond in a very, very dark purple for $12 Canadian. And I got a nice yellow green Lynchburg, CD 164 [110],missing one drip. Paid the usual price for that one. see the next two pictures. A fun day, Canadians always very friendly, want to go back! Barrett Nicpon responded to my request for more information on this insulator. Thanks Barrett. Hey, Barry Saw your post on ICON! Unfortunately, the piece you have is not what is known as the threaded version of 743.3. It's what Mark Lauckner referred to as a '1-A" style in his book on Canadian railway beehive telegraph styles. It is simply included under the "No Embossing - Canada MLOD" listing in the guide. The 743.3 style is a very distinctive shape. I'll send you some photos of the style when I get home. For now, try looking up double-threaded CD 143s, as most of these out there were made in former CD 743.3 moulds. It is, none-the-less, a tough style. I've only ever turned up three examples in 15 years of collecting! Glad you had some fun in Canada! All the best! Barrett |
