We, by chance, stopped at the weirdest place we've ever been to today, in Whitewood, SK, called Old George's Antique Store and Museum. It wasn't much of a store since he told us he didn't sell much. It was a very interesting collection of stuff that he had, more of an antique hoarding situation than a museum. I felt like we were in the middle of an episode of American Pickers. I saw that he had a bunch of insulators among his stuff. We woke him up when we went into the house. We paid for a "tour" and he told us about the house and some of the interesting stuff he had, then we wandered around the house looking through the rooms, and through the "town" he built behind the house. I initially saw a transposition like this one in his living room, but he wasn't interested in selling it. I found the pictured one that has a chip under the umbrella in his basement, and he agreed to sell it. He also was willing to part with the two glass pieces. No bargains but not outrageously priced, and an entertaining couple of hours. He had a bunch of purple Canadian insulators, but wanted pretty much book value for them. I don't know if he was eccentric or disingenuous, or a little of both. Barrett Nicpon says he's a passionate Saskatchewan historian. George said a TV crew filmed his place and an article was written about him in the Chinese version of Cosmopolitan magazine. Back to the boring old USA tomorrow. |
