I took this picture after following all of the broken remnants of insulators, crossarms, and poles to the bottom of the pass. Towards the top of the picture are abandoned snow sheds of the Central Pacific Railroad. Lots of great history here. Imagine what the Chinese immigrants had to go through to build the transcontinental railroad in this desolate and harsh terrain. I believe one historian called Donner Pass "one of natures strongest and most impenetrable Citadels". They built a railroad right through it almost 150 years ago.
