On the left is a very pretty green aqua glass shard (around 4" x 2" in size) and off to the right is a lighter aqua shard of glass. That piece almost resembles a handle to a glass cane which WGMCo did produce. I found some years ago at the site a handle to an ornamental small cane which was the color of a lighter aqua WFGCo toll. There are pics somewhere showing the WGMCo employees with glass canes that they produced at the site and as I recall they were used in parade. WGMCo bottle glass came in many colors....steel bluish, straw, clear and peach. Aqua and deep green aqua colors as well. Indeed some hutch bottles are known marked Elk Mountain Bottling Works Crested Butte Colo which come in that lovely deep greenish color and are marked with the buckle trademark. While insulators were an important item at that plant their main business was bottles--everything from small medicine to food and other utility bottles as well as various sodas, beers and whiskeys. |
