I took an extended lunch today and drove over to the old site of the Valverde Glass Works/WFGCo & WGMCo plant site. Of course the buildings are long gone and folks have dug around that area for some time but it's still possible to find broken glass. Here is the base of an old beer bottle with the familiar WGMCo trademark "belt-buckle". WGMCo did produce amber bottles during their later years (probably 1907-8) and there are several sizes of cylindrical whiskeys as well as about three different sizes of crown tops (for beer) in amber shades. No WGMCo insulators are known in amber as of this date. This base to a crown top beer is a very pretty orange-amber color & was located near the base of the power pole in the front of the next photo. |
