The next day we did a trip around the area near Rob's place on the out skirts of Napier. This substation distributes to 3 fairly isolated farming districts that have no exit roads heading back into the hills of nearby ranges. You will see 3 copper topped CD 344's holding the up/down wire. These are known to be used in one or two other areas and generally hard to get. On the top are 3 'Steatite Porcelain - England' lightning arrestors in green. We have never spotted these anywhere else before and as the substation is scheduled for renewal, Rob is going to track down the powers to be and see if we can get them along with the copper tops. |
