Last weekend, Rob and I did a drive down through the Hawkes Bay to investigate finding old insulators on a disused Railway Incline up the Rimitaka Range just north of Wellington. Found not a sign of a piece of an insulator! Rob did find a rare amber beer bottle so the day wasn't a total failure. We did manage to spot several insulators 'in situ' and the following pics gives you an idea what can still be found 'downunder'. This pic is of a square wooden pole - fairly uncommon sight - with 3 nice Lapp U-722's holding the drop down to the transformer. The pole on the left has a 'common' Ohio Brass U-705 sitting on top. |
