Up for sale this afternoon is a very scarce, early Canadian pony. Thought to have been used on early telephone lines throughout the Niagara and Toronto areas, as well as areas of Peterborough County, these very rarely turn up, as it's very likely that only a small number were made for lines in these specific areas. I personally only know of around 2 dozen examples in the hobby, including some very badly damaged specimens. This example came from a bottle collection in the greater Toronto area earlier this year. I would keep it for the collection, but the condition is worse than the examples I already have. This example is a light aqua colour, and has a large spiral amber swirl that runs throughout the insulator, nicely accented by the light aqua glass. As you can see, the damage is not pleasant on this piece. It has had a large impact on one side of the skirt, which resulted in two large arc chunks, one 1" wide and the other the other 3/4" wide, being broken out of the skirt. As well, a crack 1" tall runs up the skirt from the impact point, and there is a 1/8" wide wedge of glass missing from the base of this as well. There is a 3/8" wide area of chipping along the side of one of the large arc chunks. The one wire damage item is a 3/4" bruise on the lower wire groove just behind one of the mould lines. Fortunately all of the damage aligns so that there is at least one respectable angle from which the piece can be displayed. Let's try $115.00 US plus shipping for this piece. This is a rare one, and examples don't come up for sale too often so this could be your chance to buy a respectable-looking place holder until a better example comes along. I accept PayPal, or personal cheque from any member of ICON or any collector with whom I have dealt before. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos, and look through my other items or unsold sales stock to combine shipping on items. |
