The latter can be clearly seen towards the left. It is an earlier, once common fixture style that utilized a CD 280 glass or similarly styled porcelain insulator to physically connect the fixture with the pipe bracket. This method also electrically insulated the latter since the series street lighting circuits these lights operated with sometimes had very dangerous open circuit voltages.
