Image taken in the centre of this Maine seashore community along what is now known as US Route 1. The openwire line you see carried AT&T openwire toll circuits between Boston, MA and Portland, ME; much of which pararelled US SR1 on the Maine side once it headed north from the ME/NH state line in Portsmouth, NH. This 1890s line stood until the late 20s or early 30s when it was replaced by lead-sheathed paired cable.
