This city is a few miles north of Boston and a large portion of it was destroyed by a fast-spreading fire in 1906. In this photo linemen are making repairs to what is left of a pole line or they are in the process of constructing a new one. Goodness knows how many rare Boston-area glass insulators got damaged and dumped as a result of this disaster. A similar holocaust took place in Chelsea in late 1973. Modern firefighting equipment of the time kept the fire from spreading through as much area as the 1906 fire did. FYI...The City of Boston and the majority of its suburbs as well as many other communities here in Eastern Massachusetts retain their original fire alarm telegraph systems, most of which are Gamewell.
