We dug a couple of these tie wire's the other day while digging along a ca.1861 line. This one was just a few inches down, while the other was about 2ft down. This came from the same stump from which i retrieved a 7ft section of a cedar pole. See [id=20697587] ......We ended up digging three stumps completely out of the ground, which turned out to be very interesting....The bases of all three stumps had been chopped down with an ax and left that way when placed in the ground. I'm now 99% certain these are the original poles for this line. No whole insulators yet, just a few shards, but it is getting exciting!
