This community is in north central Massachusetts and the forementioned railroad route was a major connection (along with the adjacent telegraph line) between Boston, MA and Albany, NY. The older (1890s) telegraph line you see was replaced at some time during the teens with a new line constructed with cedar poles, 10-pin crossarms and hard-drawn copper wire. This line stood until the late 1980s.
