This town exists on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal. This openwire phone lead likely was an AT&T connection to Cape Cod communities. Many of the latter subscribers were within Southern Massachusetts Telephone Company territory for some years until New England Telephone and Telegraph Company slowly but surely bought out individual exchanges on Cape Cod and elsewhere in southeastern Massachusetts. So. Mass. Tel. Co. was fully absorbed by the NET&T Co. in 1938.
