This community is about 20 miles southeast of Boston and for many years was served by the Southern Massachusetts Telephone Company. The three-crossarm line in the foreground on the right is believed to be a Ma Bell toll lead that connected the Rockland central office with Scituate, MA about 10 miles to the east. On the left were electric lighting circuits owned by the Electric Light and Power Company of Abington and Rockland. An old incandescent gooseneck-style street light that once illuminated this intersection is also seen. Soon after WW2 ended the forementioned electric utility was purchased by the Brockton Edison Company. |
