This community is located a few miles from the Massachusetts mainland. An underwater high voltage (115kv?) line from an adjacent land location provides current for this island community once served by the Cape and Vineyard Electric Company. In the 1970s the latter was purchased by Commonwealth Electric and since about 10 years the power utility for Cape Cod and Marthas Vineyard has been NStar Electric. A number of older 4kv installations scattered around the Cape still remain. The utility has done upgrading to 13.8 and 23kv but generally only in dense business locales owing to the fact that the salt air sometimes is a neverending problem interfering with their electrical equipment. Lots of their higher voltage primary is over-insulated to help remedy some of these issues. |
