Nice view with plenty of insulators graced this New York State country road. Note the poletop pin which supported a separate wire. This probably was for lightning protection. Typically lightning strikes upon individual comms wires "bleeds" off from their insulators along their route, down the crossarm to pole to ground. By the time telephone equipment is reached it is often unharmed, particularly via protection devices including subscriber connections.
