I have just done a 800km round trip to a depot I have regularly visited over the years. Some stuff gets put aside for me and I usually have a glorious scavenge through the heap of crossarms etc in the rubbish pile. They employ a school boy to take the pins off the arms then hold the insulator over a drum and give it a whack with a hammer so the end result is a stack of firewood, a drum of porcelain and glass chunks and a drum of recyclable iron. I grimace when I see some of the stuff in the drums!! Still, there is always something to gather up as you can see from the next series of pics. I make sure they look after me with a donation of beer/meat or petrol vouchers.
