A covered (braided cloth with rubber insulation) cable with two wires within it led down to this gooseneck-style radial wave reflectored fixture. The cable ends were split to expose each wire for the fixture and poletop connections. The latter can readily be seen. The "break" in the line wire was provided by a standard guy wire strain insulator (as the majority of similar installations across the USA were). In uncommon instances such dedicated street lighting circuits were identified by a specially colored glass or porcelain insulator acting as a delineator or marker. Colored porcelain strain insulators used for this purpose such as yellow, blue or green porcelain were highly uncommon and are indeed rare. |
