Most of the local distribution in this photo was 4kv. In the background is classic New England Power Service double-circuit 23kv transmission construction. This line employed either three-part Thomas multi's (all were mottled) or larger-style two-piece Locke's. Lines like this were a really nice sight for me as a kid as I recall a couple local ones that New England Power had (and they are still in service). Cranston as well as most of RI was served by the Naragansett Electric Company. The parent company was New England Power. The latter and all of its subsidiaries became National Grid around 2000 and still are. |
