On the far right is an incandescent GE street light fixture from around the 1930s or 40s that had a "gumball" style reflector and globe attached to it. A clamp-on porcelain insulator was affixed to its pipe backet for holding the thickly insulated street series cable that entered into it. In the center of this photo (to the right of the cool and "boxy" suspended traffic signal) is a spanwire light fixture which illuminated this intersection's center. It was designed without a diffusing globe and acted like a downwards spotlight. This provided for safer traffic flow and illumination for police officers who sometimes stood beneath it during the evening for directing traffic and other nighttime ops.
