Historic Maine community right near the coast located about half-way between Portland, ME and the NH-ME state line in Portsmouth, ME. Kennebunk's electric service lines can be readily seen here. At some point (maybe in the 1950s?) their municipally-owned light plant took all of their overhead utilities in their town centre and ran them underground. This consumer-owned utility was formed in 1894, serves only the town of Kennebunk (but not neighboring Kennebunkport which is a separate town) and Kennebunk's electric rates are at least half of those of the investor-owned utility that provides electricity to most of the remainder of the state. |
