Electric lighting service lines ran atop this pole in this Vermont community. Beneath on the longer crossarm are telephone circuits connecting to a wooden junction box. The latter were commonly used in the early days to combine the openwire pairs to paired-covered cable; frequently leading to the telephone company central office immediately nearby. The terminal blocks inside of these boxes also allowed technicians to perform circuit testing.
