Up for sale is and example of one of these classic Canadian telegraph innovations that didn't really work all that well, but remain pretty fascinating for the ingenuity, albeit misguided, that led to such interesting inventions. These were installed in urban areas in order to protect the insulators from those toting guns, sling shots, bow & arrow, or whatever other projectile that could lead to damage on the glass and failure of the line. They can still be seen in use in many urban areas throughout Canada, but the longer they remain in the air, the worse their condition becomes and the more likely they are to simply rust away completely. This example was picked near Toronto, ON towards the end of last year. The Dominion 42 is a light green colour, and is of the [020] embossing. The metal skirt on this one shows the rusting standard on these, but is generally solid. It's been dented on one side, but still sits flush against the insulator. The tabs used to bend the two halves of the skirt together are badly rusted, but are holding strong. So long as you don't try to remove the skirt, everything will be solid on this one.
