Majestic older homes line this southern New Hampshire comminity's main thorofare. Quite possibly the lighter-colored two-pin crossarm atop the pole on the left carried fire alarm wires. For many years here in New England such crossarms had "FIRE" and "ALARM" stencilled upon each side in contrasting lettering upon white or red-painted arms. Note the "angled" pins mounted on the third crossarm down from the poletop, carrying wires from across the street. A very early incandescent street light also is viewed here. Some of these simpler straight "gas-pipe" street lamp arms preceded the more familiar "gooseneck" pipe brackets which became commonplace around 1900.
