In addition to the store signs and other cool Americana we see here are the incandescent "tear-drop" street lights on ornate brackets that illuminated this historic coastal Maine town ...which is about 20 miles south of Portland, ME or approximately 25 miles up the coast from the ME/NH border. Many orange, tan and mottled three-skirted Lapp catalog number 5840 pintype insulators were used there commencing around 1930. These are similar to the "line post" design and Central Maine Power used lots of them especially near the seacoast. Most were bottom-rest (fired) porcelain however some have been located in light pumpkin glaze having an unfired top rest. |
