I needed to get out of the house today and walk off a little of the holiday feasting. Although it was hovering around 32 degrees with freezing rain, I decided to do a little hiking along some of the old Rochester and Eastern Rapid Railway. This 45 mile interurban line ran from Rochester NY to Geneva NY and was built in 1903-1904. Original insulators were glass Locke #17 and Locke #21 mounted on wooden poles. Concrete poles were installed in the early teens, with M-2140 Locke R=00 or No Name multi's. The line lasted until 1930. This is the view looking along the old grade.
