This photo taken yesterday shows what little is left of one of the origional 1903 poles that once supported the famous Electron Powerhouse-Seattle 55kV transmission line. the photo shows the top of the pole from about where the arm was to the top . you can see part of the Kingpin mount behind the fencepost and a few bolts that attached the now totally decomposed crossarm below that on the left side of the photo . The line was compleatly reconstructed betwien 1939 and 1941 with all new suspension insulators poles and arms . The insulators from this pole were long ago taken or may have been removed when the line was taken out of service and reused . I found one of the pins and the origional insulator had been smashed off and replaced with a later one ... Just finding a pin from this line has proven very chalenging and I have only found about a half dozen total . this pole was just off the right of way of the PSE Ry near Milton, Wa . As you can see 70 years on the ground has left little of this pole remaining ... Even the heavy steel king pin block support has nearly rusted to dust . After probing around, I did find one of the pins though which I saved. This section of the line seems to have used only Thomas M-4325's of very early production This line was totally pepperd with replacements when it was finally upgraded including numerous modern lapp and westinghouse three parts which would have been good useable insulators in that era . this line was among the very first high voltage transmission lines ever constructed so anything that gets saved from it an important artifact for future collectors and historians to have . |
