Surprising quantity of insulators in this old photo, but looking better on the pole on the left we can see an italian 1/1920 double stripe. I really think that initially, the double stripers, were used for the return circuit of the telegraph and telephone lines (when they did not have the normal high stripers), then as many others insulators, recycled where was needed.
